This has been a frequently asked question, so we thought we’d provide an update.. Should you lease or purchase exclusive beats with us?
Understand the agreement reached between the artist and the producer, as well as the contracts that bind them.
Non exclusive beat (Especially Riddims)
Riddims are non exclusive but are always dependent on what we are seeking hence we offer it to some people whilst we don’t offer it to others. Check out Empathy and Reconciliation Riddims.
Non exclusive beats will be just beats we make and we can sell to 2 or 3 people.
Lease
Its an exclusive lease. Meaning only you can use the beat for all you want for 5 years.
We cannot give it to another person and similarly, you also cannot sell it or give it to another person. It can only be used by you exclusively.
Essentially we own the beat but we are leasing the right to you to use the beat. In that light, copyright of the beat remains with us.
Royalties
Royalties are generated from 6 types of rights. Namely, synchronization license, mechanical license, master license, public performance license, print rights license, and theatrical license.
So for that you get the other 5 so that you can use the beat but we retain the master so you cannot sell the beat.
In short you can generate royalties from all other rights except the master licence!
